  1. Kayaking

Apostle Islands Sept. 2005

Brother Ben and I went sea kayaking in the Apostle Islands on Lake Superior over Labor Day weekend in 2005. I had just recently purchased both sea kayaks in the last month for Becca and I. Ben had never kayaked before and had no idea what to expect. The first day we covered about 10 miles as we launched from Little Sand Bay and camped on Otter Island. The second day we did 21 miles as we went to Rocky Island, Devil's Island, Bear Island, and lastly Oak Island where we camped.

  • The wind was at our backs for the final 5 miles of this day from Bear to Oak, and we tried to "surf" with the swells which gave us a big burst of momentum. We kept flying by each other as one of us managed to hit a swell just right.
