  • The first day we launched at Little Sand Bay into 3-5 foot waves, going with the wind towards Raspberry Island. We were a bit uncomfortable with the conditions and at Raspberry Island we found out the winds were 20-25 knots with a small craft advisory.
  • We continued onto Bear Island which protected us from the wind and camped at this deserted sandy beach. Almost paradise, but for the horde of flies.
  • The 2nd day we casually paddled in 2-3 foot waves from Bear over to Oak, site #4. We were done paddling by 1:00 and had the remaining afternoon to relax on this deserted sandy beach. The water was unusually warm for Lake Superior, so we went swimming!
  • We were delighted to find no flies at this beach on Oak. It felt like a tropical paradise, devoid of people. We read our books and sipped wine into the evening.
  • The lack of bugs, gorgeous weather, and the pristine beaches made this trip feel like we were on a luxury cruise.
  • On the 3rd day we headed into the wind a short distance to York Island, where we found the best beach yet. Once again we were done paddling by 1:00 and relaxed on the beach throughout the afternoon.
