  • The rising sun on opening morning. Took about 20 minutes to put my stand up in the same tree as last year.
  • I saw a deer in the distance through brush on south side of my pond. No good shooting opportunity. It never indicated it was aware of me.
  • I spent all day in the woods and moved to a new spot in the early afternoon on the western side of the Ozawindib trail. Found this large red pine that had fallen over which made an excellent ground blind.
  • A bear showed up within 15 minutes of finding this new spot. It didn't come any closer.

  • Sunday morning a small deer (fawn?) came meandering slowly by. At first I decided it was too small to shoot so I took photos and even a video of the deer. On a whim I changed my mind and shot it through the heart. It fell over, got up took 1 step with a broken leg and fell down to the ground dead.
  • Little deer are easy to cart out!

  • Bryce all bundled up and ready to go on his first hunting outing!
  • Grandpa sent a text saying he saw a deer and that it was headed our way. Bryce got excited and started scanning the woods with binoculars, which I later pointed out he was holding backwards.

  • Yummy hot chocolate!
  • Bryce helped discover a new spot to sit.
  • An interesting birch log perfectly vertical in the air but a good 5 feet off the ground with no sign of a tree having grown below it. Not sure where it fell from?
