  • Bryce got bit by a snake running on a well-travelled trail down to Garraptos beach. He came running back to us screaming and extremely scared and said that a snake touched him. The blood marks clearly show that he was bit. I saw about half the snake for about 1 second, not really enough to conclusively identify it. Best guess after 15 minutes of phone research an hour later when we had cell phone reception indicates it was a Two-Striped Garter Snake. It was big (1.5" in diameter) and I saw 2' to 3' of the snake without seeing the head of it as it disappeared into the bushes. Scary! It healed quickly and was not visible 2 days later.

  • Monterey Bay Aquarium. It was very busy which detracted a bit from the enjoyment.
  • Contemplating the dead bird on the beach. There was another 100 feet later down the beach.
  • Collecting shells and picking up garbage on our beach walk.

  • Bryce's favorite shell had tons of holes in it. He declared it a fossil! Further research seems to indicate it was a shell that was attacked by a Boring Sponge... boring as in drilling.
