BWCA, Aug. 2015

With kids Bryce (5) and Maddie (3) we entered on Seagull Lake and over 5 days we paddled to Ogishkemuncie and back to Seagull Lake.

  • It was a drizzling a bit as we started.

  • We found a classic cliff top campsite overlooking Jasper Lake.

  • Maddie and Becca didn't get enough canoeing yet this day! This was the first BWCA trip with our new Northwind 17' kevlar made by Ted Bell.
  • Much of this area of the wilderness was burned over. When choosing campsites we tried to find ones that had mature trees nearby for shade and wind protection, but most of the mature trees were lost in the fire from years ago.

  • Bryce spent a lot of time keeping the fire going. It was nice to get the fire started and let him take care of the rest!

  • Beautiful morning for some canoeing!
  • Here is our next campsite on Lake Ogishkemuncie. Bryce was able to cast and fish on his own. Although he lost most of the lures I brought by the end of the trip!
  • Out for some afternoon fishing. We caught nothing the entire trip - we didn't have any live bait.
  • Always smiley in the wilderness!
  • We enjoyed having this hammock along - a great place to relax.
