The real Talus Lake. Turns out we were at Norma Lake the night before, which also has Talus! And there is another campsite on this trail that is not on the map which initially threw us off.

  • We were expecting to find a trail junction almost immediately on the third day. The one leading up to the Sleeping Giant's Chest. But we weren't finding it. Simultaneously my new compass was clearly not working at all. And of course no real map, just the photo on my phone. We eventually came to a lake with a campsite which was unexpected. Then came to the junction. That is when Maddie pointed out - "Dad, I don't think we camped at Talus Lake last night." She was right - we weren't where we thought we were the night before!

  • Going down!
  • Maddie absolutely cracked up laughing that she got this photo of me hanging onto a small balsam branch as I carefully inched down a steep part.
  • We did the last 6 km in no time on the wide Sawyer Bay trail! Nothing to it compared to the much more treacherous Talus Lake trail. Maddie really enjoyed working with the map on this trip!
  • A fox on our drive out of the park. Not sure if it was sick or if it is accustomed to people feeding it.
