  • We carefully kept track of our location on the map. Both of our maps were incorrect within the first few miles as the trail actually stays away from the river initially before joining up with it later on.
  • There were 2 other cars at the trailhead. From the overstuffed permit box we could tell there was a group of 6 and a group of 2 that started earlier that day. We had envisioned an empty trail and now were expecting to have problems finding an empty campsite!

  • Lots of wolf scat. There was one particular section that had half a dozen fresh piles within a 1 to 2 mile stretch.
  • Lots of fallen trees to go over or under.

  • Rock cairns helped to mark the trail, but were rarely needed as the trail was usually obvious.
