Bryce carved my name out of leaves. They blew away before I could take the picture and it took us a few minutes to find them amongst the leaves on the ground again.

  • We were covering 6 miles this day. A few breaks were in order.

  • Neiko scouting ahead!<br /> Much of the trail was muddy and full of puddles. We were constantly walking on logs and hopping all over the place to keep our feet as dry as possible. Neiko enjoyed walking on the logs with us.
  • One of Bryce's favorite parts of the trip was balancing on logs.

  • Bryce carved my name out of leaves. They blew away before I could take the picture and it took us a few minutes to find them amongst the leaves on the ground again.
  • We got to our campsite about 2 pm. We had ample time to set up the tent, make a fire and relax. This was GP3, a site along the Government Peak trail on a small lake / large pond. I don't recommend this site. The site is not directly on the lake, it is in the middle of the trail and water access is horrible. Had to go 20 minutes around to the other side of the lake to get water worth using, unless one wants to wade out in the muck and weeds.

  • A boy and his dog enjoying a fire. Neiko was rather tired after having hiked 6 miles. We noticed he was falling asleep sitting up and realized it was because his attached line was so taut he couldn't lay down next to Bryce. Oops.

  • The next morning we awoke to 25 degrees and snow! It continued to come down while we broke camp. Neiko woke us up at 4 am shivering. I put my down parka over him and he warmed up.

  • Neiko watched us somewhat miserably while we slowly made hot chocolate, oatmeal and packed up.
  • Burrrrrrrrr! We focused on keeping our fingers and toes warm.
  • 5 miles to go on our last day through the snow and washed out trails. We became experts at avoiding soaking our feet. Well, Bryce did. I dunked both of mine in places that looked like a pile of leaves that gave way to a foot of water. Sloshing around in wet shoes in 25 degrees ... apparently my idea of fun!

  • Neiko loved every minute on the trail.
  • We were done by 1 pm and drove the 6 hours home.
