  • It is always good to take a happy picture before the trip begans.
  • Less than a mile on the trail and here we have to cross our first river. We wore lightweight breathable non-waterproof trail shoes. They dried out quickly after crossing rivers. Due to several river crossings, boots would have been miserable since they would have been wet the entire trip.
  • Becca was carrying about 9 pounds and I carried around 20 pounds. Going lightweight is incredibly satisfying. Not once was I tired or sore. We were able to jump small creeks, balance on logs, and never needed to rest at the top of a hill. We crossed paths with 2 traditional backpackers carrying at least 3-4 times as much weight (as a pair) than we were. They asked how far to the next cabin. I said 2 miles. They groaned, looked down at their feet, and kept trudging along, pans and sleeping pads bouncing on the outside of their packs.

  • The next day we did a 12 mile loop moving away from the lake and then circling back down to camp on the lake the for the last night.
  • We crossed this river. It was cold.
  • Changing socks and reapplying moleskin after the river crossing.
  • Our new Tarptent (Squall 2).
  • Near Presque Isle.
